When a shady businessman is found dead, fully clothed, in a hotel shower, surrounded by burned thousand dollar bills, Burke is confronted with a group of men who seem to have absolutely nothing in common - a shipbuilder with a musical hobby, a haughty wine connoisseur, a loud-mouthed used-car salesman, and a man who breeds carnivorous plants.
